Teacher Only Day:

TPS Board can confirm that we will have Teacher Only Day on Monday 13 November 2023. This Ministry direction will mean school is closed as the day is given to professional development for teachers.

Netsafe Parent evening:

We have arranged this event for parents to attend (please see information below). If your children have any access to devices or internet access, we strongly encourage you to attend this very important session. Any parents/family members are welcome to attend, please note there will not be any supervision provided for children.

DATE: Wednesday 17th May – Rangitoto building

Helping your child improve with their writing – Parent workshop:

As I have shared in our previous newsletter, we have a focus on improving the writing skills of our children this year. The leadership team is hosting an evening on Thursday 25th May at 6:00pm. We welcome any parents who would like to learn more about how to help your children at home. Further information will be shared soon but please lock this date into your calendars.

Book week:

What an exciting week we have had so far for Book Week! Teachers have spent time in classroom planning for different, fun activities to engage our students with reading and how important it is for our learning. On Tuesday, the whole school supported a Book Character dress up! A huge thank you to the families who came out to support the parade as well as purchasing books through the Book Fair in the library.

Here is a photo of our staff who all looked amazing!

King Charles lll Coronation

On Monday 8th May our school planted a tree to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles lll. This is following a long standing tradition of a tree being planted at the Coronation of  Queen Elizabeth in 1953, King George in 1910 and King Edward Vll in 1902. The school sang God save the King and we blessed the tree with a Karakia.

Mitey – Mental Health Education

Mitey is a New Zealand specific, Years 1-8 approach to embedding mental health education in both teaching and learning. It was developed by the Sir John Kirwan Foundation. Our Kura is now in the second year of our Mitey journey.

Children will learn how to recognise and respond to their own mental health and those of others. Cultivating good mental health helps us cope with life’s ups and downs, and to feel comfortable asking for help from others when we need it.

Please check out the Mitey website for more information and what they cover: https://www.mitey.org.nz/

Road Safety Week

Road Safety Week aims to inspire communities to take action on road safety and promote life-saving messages during the week and beyond. It also provides a focal point for professionals working in road safety to boost awareness and engagement in their work. Next week our TPS learners will be involved in Road Safety Awareness Week activities at school.

Road Safety Alert

It has come to our attention that there are a few areas close to school where children need to take extra care when crossing these roads.

These are the areas to be aware of:

Anzac Road and Auburn Street (these are traffic light controlled)
Roundabout at the intersection of Huron Street and Auburn Street
Intersection at corner of Byron Avenue and Burns Avenue

Please talk to your children about ensuring that they use traffic light crossings and also not to cross the road right by the roundabouts.
