Learner-Led Drop in Parent sessions:
Wednesday 19th June
Purpose: Conversations between the learner (student) and parents that are focused on showing families progress, achievement and celebrating learning. These are up to 30 minutes, face to face conversations led by the students. These are pop in sessions before/after school. Parents can choose ONE of the following times on this day:
Session 1 – 8.15am to 8.45am
Session 2 – 2.30pm to 3.00pm
Session 3 – 3.00pm to 3.30pm
SCHOOL FINISHES AT 3.00PM
Lockdown Exercise:
These practices give our children and staff confidence to know how to respond if they are asked to support the management of any emergency. We have two responses, either Green (go outside) or Red (stay inside).
A lockdown can be initiated for many reasons, where we are asking children and staff to be inside. Schools can often be asked to go into Lockdown under the direction of police or if there is something happening in the school and we need to get children inside (such as a weather event). Once everyone is inside, the messaging comes from the leadership team to the teachers sharing information such as – if the children can be moving around or to stay still or to continue learning but simply stay inside. Next week, we will have a practice of keeping still and minimising noise. Teachers will speak to children about it before the practice.
Year 6 Graduation Evening
This has been scheduled for Thursday 12 December 2024. It will be an evening event so if you’re a parent to a Year 6 student, please diary this special occasion into your calendars.
Overall Teacher Judgement (posted on Hero week 10, Term 2)
We make an overall teacher judgement (OTJs) using a variety of evidence including classroom work and assessments. We think about the progress made so far into the year and decide if students are likely to make the progress needed to meet their expected curriculum level or not yet. A curriculum level is determined by the expectations in each year level (e.g Year 1, Year 2 etc) and if the students are meeting their expectations for that year level. You will get this information underneath the writing progress post during the last week of this term. You will receive the mid-year OTJ for Reading, Writing and Mathematics. We use this information to see which students are on track and if we can support those students not making the progress, any differently. My recommendation is to make time to discuss any concerns you have with your child’s classroom teacher, you do not need to wait for any formal meetings to discuss progress.
Property Update:
We are excited to inform you that from next Monday 17th June, we will have contractors working in the school to repair and upgrade the toilet block next to Tūī A and B. The existing toilets were well over 20 years old and were very rundown. The Ministry of Education funds this project and it will take approximately 8 weeks to complete. The cost is estimated at $120,000. We are looking forward to our students being able to access these smart new facilities. During this time the pedestrian access on Auburn Street will be closed. Please use one of the other entry points around the school. Classrooms will still be accessible throughout this time and we expect that there will be minimal interruptions to the school.
