Kia ora TPS whānau,

TPS Art Exhibition 2024!!

Children have worked very hard on their art pieces throughout Term 3 and we are ready to showcase. We look forward to seeing families at this wonderful event on Tuesday (see below).

Hats:

A reminder that Term 4 we have a compulsory hat policy. Children can wear any hat, as long as it is brimmed and named. If they do not have a hat, they have a designated play area under the sunshade.

Water skills for life:

Our pool has been fitted with a new heater and covers to come. A reminder for children to bring their togs and towels to school on the days they are rostered on. This is part of our curriculum at Takapuna Primary and we do not exclude children from this important lesson. We have spare togs (washed and ready) and are always looking for any spare donations if you have togs at home.

IMPORTANT – Facebook:

We have launched a Takapuna Primary School Facebook page, so we can share the fabulous things our students, teachers and community are achieving on a more regular basis. The purpose is to share general events, however your main communication from the school will remain as HERO. Please note it is a public forum and will be accessible to a wider community than TPS families. This means extended families and friends from around the world can view our posts. When you enrol your child, you were asked if you give permission for online publications, this includes Facebook. I urge you to get in touch with the office, if you have changed your mind and do not want us to publish your child’s photo online including Facebook.

Teacher Only Day – NEXT WEEK:

A reminder that this is the second Ministry of Education allocated day for curriculum work and is scheduled for the end of week 2 of Term 4. This is on Friday 25 October (Labour Day on Monday 28 October).

Playground Update:

We are very excited to let you know that the works on the new playground will begin Monday 21 October (next week!). Thanks to the school community who raised around $15,000 with the Read-a-thon and to our School Board for providing the additional funding. A total cost of over $100,000. This is final design after we considered the student and parent feedback.

New Staff:

We officially welcome our new teachers, students and families during the Mihi Whakatau (traditional Māori welcome) tomorrow at 9:15am. We have our new term 4 teacher, Isabel Robertson, who is teaching our new entrant students in Room 6E.

Regards, Devika and the TPS team.

Art Exhibition Tuesday 22nd October

Our students spent much of last term working on a piece of art to exhibit in our upcoming exhibition.

Over the term, students learnt about different artists and worked with a variety of media to express their ideas visually. This Tuesday 22nd October, we will celebrate their achievements.

The exhibition will be officially opened at 2:45 pm with a performance by the Kapa Haka and introduction from Devika. After the official opening there will be an opportunity for whānau to drop by and explore the exhibition any time until 6:30 pm.

There will be interactive activities and our wonderful SCG will be on hand selling delicious snacks and drinks. Cash only snacks and drinks.

Entry to the exhibition and activities are free

The SCG (School Community Group) are organising a sausage sizzle. There will be dumplings for sale and we are asking the community for donated home baking (cupcakes, slices, cookies) for a sale.

If you can make some home baking (cupcakes, slices, cookies) or would like to help out with dumplings or the sausage sizzle, please email scg@tps.school.nz

Cardboard boxes for baking can be collected from the office. Individually packaged items are easiest to work with. Please drop baking to the school office by 11:00am.

Congratulations Jason! (Kereru E)

In July this year, Jason participated in the New Zealand National Robotics Olympiad Competition as a student of Takapuna Primary School. He performed exceptionally well, earning gold, silver, and bronze medals in both team and individual events. This achievement has been a tremendous encouragement for him, and he’s thrilled to have earned these honors.

Additionally, Jason has been selected to join the New Zealand National Team and will represent the country at the World Robotics Competition in Busan, South Korea, in January 2025. I wanted to share this wonderful news with you and extend our heartfelt thanks to you and the school for all your support and guidance in Jason’s development.

We believe that Jason’s future at Takapuna Primary School will continue to be filled with meaningful experiences. Thank you once again for everything!

Best regards,
Steve

Congratulations Ava!

My name is Ava. I play for Takapuna Rugby Club. Last term I went to the rippa rugby prize giving.

The prize giving is when all the rippa rugby teams go to the club and give out trophies. For example, one for the best player in the team and one for the most improved player and so on.

There are even trophies for the best team, the under 11s and all of the older and younger groups.

My team was the best team for under 11s. When they were handing out the trophies, I was surprised when I got most improved player. I’ve been playing for 2 years and I’ve gotten so much better!

Want to learn new skills, get outdoors, and have fun? The skills you learn in athletics are the perfect foundation for almost any sport.
Every student can give athletics a go. Our local athletics club, Takapuna Athletics Club are welcoming new members now and we encourage students to get involved and get active.
Contact details for all athletics clubs nationwide are available click here and become a member.

Mitey – Mental Health Education:

Mitey is a New Zealand specific, Years 1-8 approach to embedding mental health education in both teaching and learning. It was developed by the Sir John Kirwan Foundation. Our kura is now in the second year on our Mitey journey.

Children will learn how to recognise and respond to their own mental health and those of others. Cultivating good mental health helps us cope with life’s ups and downs, and to feel comfortable asking for help from others when we need it.

All the teachers at Takapuna Primary are engaging with Professional Development from our expert coaches working for Mitey.
