It takes a village to raise a child

Kia ora, Talofa, Ni hao, Annyeonghaseyo, Ola, Konnichiwa, Bula,

A very warm welcome to term 3 at Takapuna Primary. A special welcome to all the new families who have joined us this term. We are excited to have you with us and look forward to seeing you all at the Mihi Whakatau (welcome) tomorrow at 9:10am.

We also welcome Siu-Ling Kuan as an ESOL teacher working on a Friday with us.

We had a fabulous wheels/pizza day at the end of last term. It was wonderful to see our Tūi and Kererū learners riding on our new bike track for the first time. A big thanks to Mandy and the SCG (school community group) for your efforts in organising the pizza and popcorn. This is a good fundraiser for our school.

We sometimes have to close the field/grassed areas to avoid the children from slipping over, also to protect the condition of the grass. If the ‘field closed’ sign is out, please keep off these areas AFTER school too.

As the winter bugs creep in, a reminder to please let the office know if your child will be away or late.

Ngā Mihi katou,

Lisa Davies

Parenting Place Evening: Book NOW!

A big thanks to the Purdom family who put together the outdoor chess together over the holidays. This amazing set is available for the children to play with at lunchtimes.

Our lunchtime gardeners have been working hard this term to tidy up the gardens behind Rangitoto building.

They have made fabulous progress this term and some of our garden beds have plants that are ready for harvest!

We would love to have some more plants to include in our garden and would gladly accept any donations of seeds or seedlings. These could be edible plants or your favourite flower or shrub.

If you have any plants or seeds to share please contact me at  saraho@tps.school.nz

Thank you everyone who supported our pizza day. The sun shone, the wheels were out and everyone had an enjoyable time!

Our senior kapa haka group featured in the local paper, the Rangitoto Observer.

The tamariki were very proud to see themselves in the news.

At the end of Term 2 the Tūī team visited the Takapuna Library. We learned about how to use our local library with our free library cards. The librarians there are uncredible story tellers! The Takapuna Library is a special place in our community.

Our Year 4, 5 & 6 Netball had a special ‘practice’ last term, learning coordination through dance.

Thanks to Helena from “Fit Steps”.

Meet our 2024 Bike Ambassadors:

Last term, our Ambassadors had the privilege of spending the day with Janet from Auckland Transport. The day kicked off with a proud showcase of our new bike track, leaving Janet thoroughly impressed! We then diligently inspected the track for any debris before use. As we evaluated the track, meticulously grading its ramps and turns, we anticipated potential challenges for our riders.

Following this, we received hands-on training in conducting a comprehensive three-point safety check on our bike fleet and practised the correct method of helmet fitting. Once prepared, it was time for the serious business – testing the track ourselves!

To conclude this enriching experience, we collaborated to map out the track, documenting our discoveries. The day was filled with meaningful work and laughter, making it truly memorable.

Mitey – Mental Health Education:

Mitey is a New Zealand specific, Years 1-8 approach to embedding mental health education in both teaching and learning. It was developed by the Sir John Kirwan Foundation. Our kura is now in the second year on our Mitey journey.

Children will learn how to recognise and respond to their own mental health and those of others. Cultivating good mental health helps us cope with life’s ups and downs, and to feel comfortable asking for help from others when we need it.

All the teachers at Takapuna Primary are engaging with Professional Development from our expert coaches working for Mitey.

Guitar & Ukulele Lessons at Takapuna Primary School

Musiqhub offers Guitar and Ukulele tuition to students at Takapuna Primary School with experienced tutor Dave Gatman.

Students learn a range of traditional and contemporary styled songs and techniques where they play together as a group and take turns to play to the group as individuals. This format creates a relaxed and fun environment for students to learn in and is popular in schools around the country.

The lessons are during school hours on Thursdays and are available to students in Year 2 and older. Dave has a few spaces left for Term 3 lessons.

Contact Dave on 021 222 1456 or dave.gatman@musiqhub.co.nz
