Bikes at Takapuna Primary School
We have recently put on a new bike track and bike pump for our students to enjoy biking as well as feel challenged and confident as riders. We are very fortunate to have a fleet of around 50 bikes of different sizes, located next to the track on our school field. We are planning how we will use the ‘Bikes in School’ programme to get all students excited about riding and learning this great skill that helps with fitness, balance, coordination and getting out in the fresh air! We have Bike Ambassadors (our senior students) who receive extra training to support others who need help. They are our role models for safe use of the track, checking helmets and performing a bike check before riding. We are a community school and encourage our learners and families to use the bike track whenever they can.
At the end of every term, we celebrate ‘Wheels Day’ where all our students have the opportunity to bring in their bikes and scooters.
